Alexander Ruhle, MD
Dr. Alexander Rühle is a board-certified radiation oncologist at the University Medical Center Leipzig, Germany. After graduating from Heidelberg University, with academic training experiences in Zurich, Basel, and Cairns, he earned his MD at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in 2019. Starting in July 2025, Dr. Rühle undertakes a 12-month clinical research fellowship at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada.
His translational research focuses on the radiobiology of mesenchymal stromal cells, particularly their interactions with tumor cells during irradiation, the development and validation of novel biomarkers for head and neck cancer, and the impact of tumor hypoxia on treatment outcomes for head and neck cancer patients.
Dr. Rühle’s clinical research interests encompass the unique challenges and treatment paradigms for elderly head and neck cancer patients, as well as the management of oligometastatic head and neck cancer.
He is the author of over 80 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author manuscripts published in leading international journals such as the Red Journal, Green Journal, JAMA Network Open, Cancer Letters, Theranostics, and EJNMMI.
From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Rühle served as Chair of the Young DEGRO Trialist Group, spearheading the research initiatives of this collaborative network. Since 2024, he is Co-Chair of the Young Investigator Committee of the HNCIG. He is also an active member of ASTRO, ESTRO and EORTC, contributing to various research and educational activities.
