Duvern Ramiah is a radiation oncologist committed to advancing oncology care, particularly for underserved populations. As Head of Radiation Oncology at the University of the Witwatersrand and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, he leads with a vision of equitable access to world-class cancer treatment.

Duvern’s clinical area of interest is prostate cancer and spearheaded the introduction of the prostate brachytherapy program at both Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, earning multiple accolades from the Centre for Public Sector Innovation. He also introduced the Prostate Cancer Stereotactic Radiosurgery program at CMJAH. His contributions to scientific research include publications on breast radiation therapy and the development of automated tools for radiotherapy planning. As a mentor, he supervises and examines dissertations and theses, nurturing the next generation of oncology professionals.

Dr. Ramiah holds leadership roles across numerous professional bodies. He is an Executive Committee member of the South African Society of Clinical and Radiation Oncologists (SASCRO), President-Elect of the Breast Interest Group of Southern Africa (BIGOSA), and is an editorial board member of the South African Journal of Oncology. He is also a Council member of the College of Radiation Oncologists (CMSA) and sits on the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Scientific Committee

A strong advocate for global oncology collaboration, Dr. Ramiah is passionate about building sustainable, high-impact radiotherapy programs that bridge the divide between innovation and access.
